Making Lemonade

Welcome to the Yippie Hippie Grandma blog. The purpose of this blog is to document our journey from the ashes of my husband’s and my failed granola business, Yippie Hippie Foods, Inc. to restarting our lives in a different city post-55 years old. It’s been tough, but we’re learning a lot and the joys of being close to our grandchildren are many.

Yippie Hippie Foods, Inc. originated  from the successful sales of my husband’s perfected granola recipe. It caught on quickly and we had major retail grocery store chains lined up to purchase it. Due to its success, I left a great career with a Fortune 100 company to join the business and before it was over, we lost everything; the business, all of our income, retirement savings, and our home.

All was not lost, we had our family, friends and each other, and we believe that, “When life hands you a bowl of lemons, make lemonade!”.

Since we had to basically start over, we decided to move to be closer to our family in middle Tennessee. Which came with the added bonus of being close to our grandchildren!! Life is very different now. I’ve begun this blog to share what I’m learning, have learned, and as time goes on, will learn as we restart our lives. There is a big difference in establishing yourself at age 20 and re-establishing yourself at 55+. So stay tuned and follow this blog as I share some great tips and experiences.

Hi Yippie Hippies! First of all let me say how I excited I am to find a “grandma” blog. I’m still relatively new to the blogging community and all I’ve seen so far, as far as blogs go, are geared more to young mothers. And I have to give you mad props for being sooooo open about the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. You’re very brave!! Your absolutely right of course, when you said that you only hear of success stories and not the failures. I’m sorry about your business. My husband and I have gone through a sort of same situation; built a business, lost everything, and moved to a completely different location. Only difference is our daughter moved her family to be close to us. I look forward to reading more of your blog posts. I’m over at alifemorebeachy.wordpress.com if you’d like to be friends. πŸ˜ƒ

      Hi Teri!
Thanks so much for visiting my blog and leaving such a nice comment. To tell you the truth, I am also new to this and had lost confidence in anyone reading it. You have inspired me to pick up the iPad and write a new post. Yes! Let’s be friends. You sound like a kindred spiritπŸ˜€.

I think we are kindred spirits indeed! I would love to be friends. It would be awesome to have someone to travel through this blogging process. I think its so hard to start this and never have any comments. It’s like throwing a ball into the surf. Is it going to come back? Is anything going to come back? Well sister, I hear you! Keep writing! Keep going. I will encourage you if you encourage me! Ok? Okay!!!! Oh by the way, what’s your name?
